Pelvic Pain Screening in Primary Practice

BSH Pelvic Pain GP Education Event

This workshop promises to be a valuable opportunity for healthcare professionals to enhance their understanding of chronic pelvic pain screening and treatment considerations.

Simone Berzen, Pain Physiotherapist with over three decades of experience and Clinical Facilitator of the Black Swan Health Persistent Pain Program, will open the event.

Event Overview:

The Pelvic Pain Screening workshop will delve into the biopsychosocial approach, exploring the complexities of diagnosis including pre-screening for psychological factors and the need for thorough history taking, examination and investigation. All of which are essential for effective treatment planning.
This workshop will provide illustrative case studies and opportunities for collaborative learning through discussion and a formal question-and-answer session towards the end of the evening.

Presented by: Dr Judith Thompson

Dr Judith Thompson is a certified continence and pelvic health physiotherapist who brings over 28 years of clinical experience. A pioneer in pelvic pain and continence management, she holds a 2006 PhD focused on real-time ultrasound for pelvic floor assessment. As the creator of Curtin University’s Clinical Physiotherapy Continence and Pelvic Health Master’s program, Dr Judith is a recognized leader in education. She has a global impact through numerous presentations at national and international conferences. Currently an Adjunct Associate Professor at Curtin University, she actively contributes to extensive research on pelvic pain, prolapse, and incontinence, boasting over 25 peer-reviewed papers.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand the complexities of diagnosing pelvic pain, including psychological pre-screening
  • Recognise the importance of history, examination and investigations in diagnosis
  • Realise the need for a multidisciplinary approach to management, including physical therapies, dietary modifcations and psychological interventions
