GP Education Event: Managing Eating Disorders In Primary Care

Workshop Overview:
In this workshop, we’ll explore how GPs play a vital role in managing eating disorders, using a step-by-step approach to care. Through case study review, we’ll learn about early detection, assessment, and referral pathways to evidence-based treatments.
Learning Outcomes:
- Understanding the National Eating Disorders Collaboration (NEDC) stepped system of care approach to eating disorders across the continuum of care.
- Recognising the pivotal GPs have within the above framework.
- Increasing participant knowledge related to the early detection, assessment, and appropriate referral processes to support patients living with an eating disorder.

About the Panel:
Janet Fountaine: With over 42 years of experience in nursing, specialising in mental health and general health settings in the UK and Australia, Janet teaches Mental Health Nursing at the University of Notre Dame Australia. Janet played a key role in establishing WAEDOCS in 2016, focusing on educating and supporting healthcare providers in the quality management of eating disorders. She is actively involved in local healthcare reforms and contributes to research and publications in the field.
Sara Vaz: An ANZAED Credentialed Eating Disorder Clinician, Sara is an experienced psychologist. Bringing her wealth of experience to our eating disorder clients, and using evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Eating Disorders (CBT-E), Sara encourages clients to pay attention to the building blocks of well-being.
Michelle Sladden: An experienced dietitian, Michelle focuses on aiding individuals with eating disorders. She advocates personalised, recovery-oriented approaches, collaborating with GPs, psychologists, and mental health clinicians. With 30 years of experience, Michelle supports clients in making lifestyle changes at their own pace on their recovery journey.
