ADHD Assessments

If you have Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) symptoms that are causing problems at home or work or in your studies, it is never too late to get assessed and receive intervention.

Many people have challenges staying focused, being organised, and thinking before they act. However, if someone shows a wide range of difficulties in these areas and these troubles are causing impairment in their work or relationships, this could signal undiagnosed ADHD.

Assessment Tools

Conners® Adult ADHD Rating Scale, second edition (CAARS-2®): We use the CAARS-2® to assist assessment for ADHD. This is a scientifically verified tool that measures a range of ADHD concerns such as inattention, emotional disinhibition, and hyperactivity, as well as related difficulties such as anxiety and depression. Our psychologist typically administers the CAARS-2® to the individual and to a significant other or a work colleague.

We also offer behavioural therapy for ADHD. GP referral and Mental Health Care Plan needed for rebates.

Autism Assessments

Autism Spectrum Disorder, which is simply known as Autism, is a lifelong developmental condition. Some areas of difficulty include socialisation, communication, sensory processing, and restricted or repetitive behaviours, interests or activities. A diagnosis unlocks access to the help that people with Autism need to maximise life satisfaction and manage difficulties in their schooling, work, or independent living. We provide expert clinical assessment to adults who are suspected of being on the Autism spectrum.

Rebates are available for clients 25 years and under with a referral from a GP. Please ask our team for details.

Assessment Tools

Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule-2 (ADOS-2): We use the ADOS-2, which is a gold standard tool for assessing autism symptoms. The ADOS-2 is a semi-structured interaction in which behaviours are observed across the areas of:

  • verbal and nonverbal communication
  • social interaction
  • recreation skills/creativity and
  • restricted or repetitive behaviours.

By observing and coding for these behaviours, information can be obtained for diagnosis and treatment planning.

The assessment examines current behaviour and skills and supplements the historical information obtained through the clinical interview and prior records. The ADOS-2 can be used to evaluate individuals at different developmental levels and ages.

Our Assessment Process:

Generally, an assessment will follow the process below.

  1. Initial meeting with the client. This meeting is to discuss concerns, strengths and challenges and includes information about the assessment process (50 minutes).
  2. Completion of test/s. Depending on the number of tests recommended by the psychologist, testing may be completed over one to three sessions. In the case of ADHD (CAARS-2) testing, this is done remotely, via the web.
  3. Analysis of results and report writing by the psychologist.
  4. Feedback and copy of report issued (50 minutes).
